Downtown bars again open for business

Tony's Big Easy and two other bars reopened Friday after their liquor license was revoked just a week ago, bar DJ Darren Donofrio said.

Donofrio said he's not sure how long the bars would be open and wasn't sure if the bars were granted a temporary license.

Lulu's Night Spot and Candy Bar and Lounge, all 129 1/2 Pugh Street, are also open, Donofrio said.

Commonwealth Court Judge Dan Pellegrini upheld the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board's (PLCB) decision last week not to renew a liquor license for the three bars -- all owned by Sammark Inc.

Sammark attorney Robert Hoffman said last week he had already filed a brief asking for a temporary liquor license while Sammark waits to hear if the state supreme court will hear its appeal.

Hoffman could not be immediately reached for comment Saturday.
