McCarthy and Simidian win for Lions

The Penn State women's tennis team went 2-2 in singles and 0-5 in doubles in day one of the Purdue Invitational Friday.

Senior Lauren McCarthy and Freshmen Amy Simidian were the winners for the Nittany Lions. Both defeated Michigan State players in straight sets.

Sophomore Kristen Roth made her first appearance for the Lions this fall, but fell in all three of her matches. She lost in straight sets in her singles match, and she lost two doubles matches with partner Allie Hefter.

The Lions continue play Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind.
