Battle leads Lions past Slippery Rock in exhibition

Talor Battle paced the Penn State men's basketball team to a 82-51 win over Slippery Rock Friday night.

In front of 7,623 fans, the junior point guard led the Nittany Lions with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lions erupted out to a 19-0 lead before Slippery Rock scored with a little more than 10 minutes left in the first half. Slippery Rock guard Michael Evans, Jr. led all scorers with 20 points.

Overall, the Lions played well in their first action of the year, getting every player time on the floor. Coach Ed DeChellis said he was happy with the performance, save for the Lions three point shooting.

The Lions shot 5-of-24 from deep, only 20.8 percent, but they did lead the rebound margin, 60-37.

Penn State will open its regular season next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against Penn.
