Two men police say broke into a Penn State student's Beaver Terrace apartment Oct. 23 waived their right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday, while the third man, who was armed with a semi-automatic gun, remains at large.
Arnold J. Sayles, 19, and Barrington D. Wilson, 18, are each charged with felony robbery, felony criminal conspiracy, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, according to court documents.
But Dalen Sayles, the cousin of Arnold Sayles, is still on the loose, and Centre County Assistant District Attorney Steve Sloane says he's willing to bargain with Sayles and Wilson on their charges if they assist authorities in finding the third man.
"We would consider working with them," he said. "He won't be a fugitive much longer. But right now, he's still on the loose and a threat to the community."
Centre County Public Defender Sean McGraw declined comment.
Sloane said Dalen Sayles is the man who police believe pressured his cousin and Wilson into leaving Lock Haven University, where Arnold Sayles is a student, and driving to Penn State.
Upon arriving, Arnold Sayles called an acquaintance of one of the three people in the Beaver Terrace apartment, according to court documents. The three men then walked through the 456 E. Beaver Ave. building's front door, and for the next three minutes, the armed men forced the three Penn State students to sit on a couch, empty their pockets and hand over their cash and cell phones, according to court documents.
Sloane said authorities are confident Dalen Sayles is the man with the gun, as surveillance cameras from the apartment building caught the three men on camera.
"It's remarkably clear and vivid," he said.
Arnold Sayles and Wilson are scheduled to have pretrial conferences Jan. 21.
