Original music needs a home in cover-band ruled downtown

I completely agree with the Nov. 3 column "Venue's flux of identity persists" about the 797 Lounge and its abandoning the original music scene.

The truth is that many local venues do not support original music and rarely give those musicians the opportunity to perform.

The loss of an original music venue is detrimental.

Recently my friend approached the 797 management about playing a show, and the management appeared excited at this prospect.

They were told to come back that weekend for a tryout, so the band proceeded to practice and anticipate the show. As the weekend grew closer, the owner became unreachable for details. The band was crushed.

This story does not compare to the many Cherry Darlings music shows that were canceled due to 797's proposed personality transplant.

Original music will always be searching for a home in cover-band friendly State College.
