Police: Man accidentally shot girlfriend while hunting

The 25-year-old boyfriend of a woman found dead at Black Moshannon State Game Lands told police that he accidentally shot her while hunting Saturday.

Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira said Troy Tierney, who university officials said is registered as a Penn State student, was Racheal Lynn Perryman's boyfriend at the time she was found dead.

Pennsylvania State Police at Philipsburg said Perryman, 21, was found dead with a bullet wound to her chest in the Port Matilda hunting grounds, about a half hour away from campus.

Madeira said that authorities have not ruled Perryman's cause of death.

"The case is still under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police," Madeira said.

He also said there will not be any criminal charges filed in connection with Perryman's death today.

State police filed a search warrant with District Judge Allen Sinclair on Monday to search the 25-year-old boyfriend's car, according to the warrant.

Authorities seized a plastic garbage bag, two blood-soaked Centre Daily Times pages, a hunting light kit, CVS pharmacy prescriptions, two blood-soaked tissues and a small green notebook, according to the warrant.

Court records show Tierney was assigned a public defender earlier this week, although authorities would not disclose why.

Friends said Tierney graduated last May.
