I am appalled by what I saw from our student section during this past Saturday's game. The fact that so many students didn't bother to show up on time or at all (again) was nothing compared to what occurred later.
Throwing snow in the air after a touchdown is all in good fun, but what occurred after this was truly disturbing. Snowballs thrown at our own cheerleaders and mascot? Snowballs thrown at the referees? We almost received a penalty because of our FANS. I saw a snowball hit Coach McQueary, and one nearly hit Coach Paterno himself, coming close enough to cause him to turn around to see where it came from.
This display of idiocy has no place anywhere, let alone at a football game on national television. The bottom line is we are all Penn State students and should be able to enjoy a football game without worrying about getting smacked in the face with a snowball.
It is a shame that the actions of a few will reflect upon so many, because the vast majority of students who came to the game were there to support our team and university and show their Penn State pride the right way. Many of them helped in some way with the fantastic Homecoming festivities that went on this past week. But in the end, millions of people watching on television saw Penn State students as a bunch of classless idiots.
