Specter visit to campus canceled

Inclement weather has forced U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter to cancel his planned visit to State College this weekend, including a planned roundtable discussion with Penn State students today, said Jake Digel, a political director for Citizens for Arlen Specter.

In addition to the roundtable, Specter was expected to officially present Penn State with two U.S. Department of Energy grants, to participate in the Homecoming parade and to take part in tomorrow's football festivities, Kate Kelly, a spokeswoman for Specter's office said.

Digel said that Specter is "100 percent" planning on scheduling another roundtable discussion with students in the future.

The grants will provide funding for the establishment of the Mid Atlantic Clean Energy Applications Center and the Mid Atlantic Solar Resource and Training Center, which will prepare student for jobs in the solar industry, according to a press release from Specter's office.

Specter is not planning to reschedule the announcement of the grants, but Penn State will still be officially announcing their details, Kelly said.
