People attending the Penn State football game against Minnesota Saturday are being asked not to park on grass lots or tailgate in paved lots, university spokeswoman Jill Shockey said today.
Paved parking lots will still be open, though by closing the grass parking lots there will be about 20,000 fewer parking spots available than on regular game days, according to a statement posted on Penn State Live.
As the ground has not frozen for winter yet, the volume of snow and slush has caused muddy conditions in these lots.
"We don't want vehicles to get stuck or for people to be in unsafe conditions," Shockey said, adding the decision was made with everyone's safety in mind.
Additionally, Penn State is asking visitors to neither tailgate nor set up tents in paved parking lots tomorrow.
"We hope everyone will respect others' wishes to be at Beaver Stadium and respect the decision of the university, so that everyone can come to the game and enjoy Homecoming," Shockey said. "We're asking everyone to be good citizens, good neighbors and good fans."
As conditions evolve throughout the day, more information will be available, including where game-goers should park, she said.
