Icers lose to rival Ohio

After a scoreless first period, the No. 3 Penn State Icers opened the scoring against the No. 5 Ohio Bobcats with a goal early in the second period.

The Icers, however, would not score again, giving up two unanswered goals to the Bobcats en route to their first loss of the season.

Penn State, which spent much of the week working on its penalty kill after struggling mightily against the Towson powerplay last week, successfully killed off each of its first four penalties, including a 5-on-3 disadvantage when the game was still scoreless.

Despite the improved play with a man in the penalty box, the game-winner for the Bobcats still came on the powerplay after freshman Ryan Erbe was called for tripping with just under 14 minutes left in regulation.

Freshman Dominic Morrone continued his strong start, scoring Penn State's lone goal, his fourth of the young season.

For the Bobcats, Michael Schultz scored both goals, giving him a team-leading six for the season.

The teams will meet again at 7 p.m. Saturday at Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio.
