Fans excited to see band

Jules Cripps has seen Jack's Mannequin four times already, but that didn't stop her from getting up early to wait in line for tickets to next weekend's show in Rec Hall.

"I'm a huge fan -- it was close to 7:45," Cripps (junior-journalism) said. And there were already about 20 people ahead of her in line when she got there, she said.

The Student Programming Association (SPA) and Penn State Homecoming 2009 are sponsoring the Jack's Mannequin concert at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11 in Rec Hall.

Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday in HUB Alumni Hall. SPA entertainment director Claire DiGiacomo said SPA sold 2,150 student tickets by 2 p.m., when Thursday's sale ended.

Only the first 400 tickets sold granted general admission access for the floor. Zack Krieger (sophomore-engineering), SPA Noontime Concert series chairman, said floor tickets sold out in 10 minutes.

"The first one got in line here at 6:50 a.m.," he said.

Cripps said she found out about the ticket sale Tuesday afternoon. She passed the time in line reading the paper, listening to music and talking to fellow ticket-seekers. She's going to the concert with all five of her roommates and knows a lot of people that have talked about going, she said.

This is the first SPA concert that has not been free, SPA adviser Jeff Zapletal said.

"Since it's in Rec Hall and we knew our costs would be substantial, we thought $5 would help offset that cost but would be cheap enough that students would pay that price," he said.

This is SPA's first concert in Rec Hall, and the $5 ticket price covers renting the facility. The concert is otherwise paid for by the student activity fee.

"That's why it's only for students," Krieger said.

Josh Wittmershaus (junior-political science) said he appreciated the low ticket price. And his friends are jealous, he said.

"It was probably the catalyst of my decision," he said. "I'm actually texting my brother right now to put it in his face."

He said he likes Jack's Mannequin's music and is excited to hear their old hits and new material.

Krieger said SPA will sell tickets every weekday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until they sell out.
