Volleyball opens Big 10 play with win

The No. 1 Penn State women's volleyball team defeated Northwestern in its Big Ten season opener Friday in Evanston, Ill.

The Lions' sweep of the Wildcats (25-19, 25-12, 25-16) extends Penn State's NCAA record winning streak to 77 matches.

Senior outside hitter Megan Hodge once again led the Lions (13-0) in kills with 16. She was helped on offense by Arielle Wilson's 13 kills and Blair Brown's 10 kills. Setter Alisha Glass contributed 45 assists on the night.

The Lions had a team attack percentage of .442, while holding the Wildcats to just .217.

Penn State continues its opening Big Ten weekend Saturday night with a match against No. 15 Illinois in Champaign, Ill.
