Police seek men wanted in beating
The State College Police Departmentis working to catch two men they say beat an intoxicated Penn State student, who has been in intensive care at Mount Nittany Medical Center since Sunday morning.
The student, whose name is being withheld by police, was transported to the hospital at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday for a serious head injury after being beaten in the middle of the 3500 block of South Atherton Street by two unknown men.
Police said the student was drunk and "staggering" when the men got out of a silver sedan and began punching him before driving away.
Police would not release further details, confirm names or provide descriptions of the individuals believed to have assaulted the student.
Student's stalking charges bound over
A Penn State student's charges were bound over for trial Wednesday in connection with stalking a woman beginning in September 2007, the State College Police Department said.
Tommy Seong Soo Lee, 20, is charged with one count of stalking and two counts harassment after police say he repeatedly e-mailed and stalked a woman, according to court documents.
Man's assault charges bound over
A Nescopeck man's charges were bound over for trial Wednesday after police say he kicked open an apartment door on the 300 block of East Beaver Avenue then assaulted a man at about 2 a.m., according to court documents.
Zachery G. Hess, 315 W. 2nd St., Nescopeck, Pa, is charged with one felony count of criminal trespass, one felony count of burglary, one count harassment, one count of criminal mischief, one count of transportation of liquor and one count of disorderly conduct, according to court documents.
Police say Hess, 19, punched the man twice, causing welts under his left eye.
PSU launches geographic info program
Penn State Continuing Education is launching a new program that will help adults learn how to use geographic information systems for current or future employment that requires such technology.
The Geospatial Information Systems Technician Certification Program will begin Oct. 13 in Philipsburg, Pa., with the first of four offered courses, according to a university press release. More courses will be offered in the spring.
According to the press release, "a geographic information system integrates hardware, software and data for capturing, managing, analyzing and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information."
World Campus adds new master's degree
The Penn State World Campus has added a new online master's degree program in applied statistics, according to a statement on Penn State Live.
The University Park campus has offered a master's degree program in applied statistics since 2001, according to the statement. The program is being offered online to meet a growing demand for trained statisticians.
