Third Eye Blind tickets sell out in first day

Hundreds of Third Eye Blind fans sat for hours in the rain this morning in hope of snagging discounted student tickets for the October show, only to be told there were no seats left.

Because of a misunderstanding in the State Theatre's advertising, students expecting 200 student tickets discounted through the Student Programming Association (SPA) were shocked to find the tickets had already sold out. The theatre only sold 82 tickets at the box office before selling out, the executive director Mike Negra said.

In reality, no tickets were actually set aside for students, Negra said. All 561 tickets were sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, and online buyers scooped up most of the $35 seats before students had a chance to get the discounted $25 tickets at the theatre, he said.

"We were blindsided in the amount of sales online," Negra said. "We never sold out a show in a day, and we never sold out a show in a month."

At 9:15 a.m., the line stretched past Herwig's Bistro, 132 W. College Ave. By 11:15 a.m., when the tickets sold out, the line wound halfway up Fraser Street.

Luke Miller (senior-English) said he stood out in the rain for hours with nothing to show for it.

"Students who sat at home at their computer for five minutes got precedence over students that sat in the rain for four hours," Miller said.

Once the tickets sold out, Negra to come out and addressed the crowd. Negra said he took down the e-mails of students in line, who will receive precedence if Third Eye Blind accepted his request of adding another show.

Negra said he is sorry for any misunderstanding and hopes students do not have to pay more in order to go to the show.

"It should be a happy day for the State College Theatre, and I never want to make anybody mad," he said.
