Three fraternities violated the Interfraternity Council's (IFC) recruitment policy the weekend of Aug. 28, IFC President Luke Pierce said Monday.
The fraternities hosted potential members at their social functions, a violation of a new IFC recruitment policy that was unanimously approved by the chapter presidents Aug. 25, IFC Vice President of Standards Chris Smith said.
Neither Pierce (senior-economics) nor Smith (senior-political science) would name the chapters in violation of the policy.
"No potential members are allowed to attend fraternity social functions that are not the designated dates set forth in the policy," Pierce said.
Once the IFC was made aware of the violations, the three fraternities were immediately placed on social probation for two social events this past weekend, Smith said. They are no longer on probation.
"I think it was important to enforce the policy," Smith said. "I would like to see every chapter completely trust in the policy and showing that the IFC is committed to enforcing the policy will gain everyone's trust in the policy."
Pierce agreed that targeting violators is important.
"I'm happy to see chapters held accountable," Pierce said.
Both Pierce and Smith stressed the necessity of enforcing the IFC policy.
