When Leandro Castro doubled off of Michael Felix with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, it was the first hit given up by State College Spikes pitching Thursday night.
Three two-run doubles to go along with a stellar pitching performance propelled the Spikes (37-36) to an 8-1 victory against the Williamsport Crosscutters (39-34).
For the second straight night, Spikes hitters jumped all over the starting pitching of the Crosscutters for early runs.
Designated hitter Justin Byler started the scoring when he knocked in two runs with a double in the first inning.
In the top of the third, the Spikes added to their lead when first basemen Aaron Baker singled in a run. One batter later, right fielder David Rubinstein hit his first of two two-run doubles of the game.
Working with a sufficient lead, recently called-up starting pitcher Brent Klinger pitched three shutout innings of no-hit baseball before giving way to Felix.
Felix (1-2), who got the win Thursday night, threw four innings giving up just two hits and the lone run of the game.
Ricardo Paulino entered to pitch the final two innings and close out the Crosscutters.
All eight of the Spikes hits, as well as eight RBIs, came from the top five hitters in the lineup. Rubinstein led the way with two doubles and four RBIs.
The second double came in the ninth inning and all but put the game away for the Spikes.
Shortstop Brock Holt and center fielder Evan Chambers tallied three runs and two hits apiece at the top of the order for State College.
With just three games remaining in the season, the Spikes have a shot to finish above .500.
Winning the remainder of their games would give them 40 wins for the season -- the most since the team moved to State College in 2006.
The Spikes conclude the series at 7:05 tonight in Williamsport.
