Spikes improve to 13-11

When State College Spikes designated hitter Kyle Morgan rounded the bases the second time Sunday night, he couldn't help but smile, and he gave Justin Byler a high-five as he went to the dugout.

One night after the Spikes couldn't produce any offense against the Jamestown Jammers, Morgan was the offense. His two home-runs carried the Spikes (13-11) to a 7-2 win over Jamestown (9-15) Sunday night.

"As far as being in pro ball, this is without a doubt the best night I've ever had," Morgan said.

Morgan had only one home run and nine RBIs entering Sunday night. That quickly changed after his first home run, a grand slam off the batter's eye in centerfield off Jamestown starter Josh Roberts (0-1) to give State College a 4-2 lead.

Morgan was at it again in the bottom of the sixth inning, hitting a two-run home run to the bleachers in right field to give the Spikes a four-run lead.

Morgan's grand slam would erase a rough first inning from Spikes starter Kyle McPherson where he allowed Jamestown to take the lead on a Sequoyah Stonecipher homer.

McPherson calmed down and allowed just four more hits and finished his night after seven innings with only the two runs allowed.

"Stuffwise, Mac's got better stuff than he had tonight," Spikes manager Gary Robinson said. "But the stuff that he had, he used to win, and that's what good pitchers learn to do. Anybody who thinks that a guy can take 30 starts in the big leagues and feel good every one of them, if he's got his best stuff twice or three times during the course of the season, then he's lucky and big things have a chance to happen."
