More than 90 football players compete in Lift for Life

His intense workout may have been finished for some time, but Evan Royster still had sights set on his bed.

"I'm alive," Royster said with a smile. "I'll be able to make it back to my bed and pass out for a while."

The seventh annual Lift for Life was held at Holuba Hall Friday as the Penn State football team helped raise money for the Kidney Cancer Association. Last year, more than $70,000 was raised.

Twenty-four teams competed in the event, including squads with names such as Your Worst Nightmare and 4th & Long. Many players said it was one of the toughest workouts they'll go through this season.

Royster, who was on team Rent Paid, was one of more than 90 players to participate in events like the tire flip and bench press.

Johnnie Troutman's team, the Monstars, led off the event. The offensive guard said it was tough to go out first, but acknowledged it allowed his team to set the bar.

There was also some smack talk between the teams.

"It's all good and fun," defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu said. "After this, it's just us hanging out and still being best buds. This is just a competition. This is such a great cause, to raise awareness and money for kidney cancer.

"Everything in general is just great out here. You love coming out here and busting your butt, seeing other people reap the benefits."
