State Theatre to serve up Disco Biscuits

Penn State students and area locals can jam out Saturday night with a bite of the psychedelic Disco Biscuits.

The band, originally hailing from the University of Pennsylvania, will spread its hypnotic vibes at 9 p.m. tonight in the State Theatre, 130 W. College Ave.

The Biscuits aren't strangers to the State College music scene, as they've been frequent fraternity house entertainers, band spokesperson Drew Granchelli said.

"They built a lot of fans playing in that area, along with Philly and New York," Granchelli said. "It's time to go back and give everyone a good show."

The Biscuits are currently on their Road to Camp Bisco tour, a series of performances to come before their festival shows at Roseberry Music Festival, High Sierra Music Festival and their very own Camp Bisco, Granchelli said. This year's Camp Bisco will be held at Indian Lookout Country Club, approximately 20 minutes outside of Albany, NY, on July 17-19, he said.

Jam band enthusiasts can enjoy the group's mix of improvisational, free-form jazz and "trance fusion," according to the band's Web site. Their 2002 album Senor Boombox was named the best studio album by Relix Magazine, according to a press release.

"The only common theme of the shows is awesomeness; they mix it up every night, it's always a really fun time. They always bring a good show," Granchelli said, adding that Saturday's show will not follow any particular formula or style.

The band usually plays two sets each lasting between an hour an hour and 30 minutes, he said.

"They play from their entire catalogue every night. Any night they may play just about anything," he said. "People will probably end up being at the show for four hours."

Tickets are available at www.thestatetheatre.org, by phone at 814-272-0606, or at the Box Office up until 5 pm tonight.
