Unknown man watches student as she showers in residence hall restroom

A woman reported an unknown man watched her as she showered late Saturday night in a Simmons Hall restroom, Penn State Police said.

The student told police that after she stepped out of the shower at about 9:15 p.m. in the second floor Simmons Hall restroom, she noticed a man observing her, police said.

The man - described as white, 5'11", with light brown hair and scruffy facial hair and wearing a blue Thon hooded sweatshirt and jeans - was standing in the bath tub adjacent to the woman's shower, police said.

The student screamed upon seeing the man, prompting him to flee the restroom, police said.

Police said it is unclear whether the male is a resident of Simmons Hall or trespassed into the residence hall.

Police do not know how long the man was watching the woman in the shower or how long he was in the bathroom.

Penn State Police Capt. Bill Moerschbacher said these types of offenses are uncommon -- "We don't get an awful lot of these," he said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
