A long, blue ribbon was cut this afternoon in dedication of the new Lewis Katz Building, home of Penn State's Dickinson School of Law.
"We are a law school transformed," said Philip McConnaughay, dean of the law school.
In his speech, McConnaughay discussed the development of Penn State's Dickinson School of Law and why it is unique.
McConnaughay said the law school has become "a destination for some of the world's leading faculty," adding the number of student applications has increased greatly because of this.
This increase in applicants has allowed the law school to become "one of the most diverse," McConnaughay said. He added that the Dickinson School of Law is the only law school in the nation to have two locations, University Park and Carlisle .
Before the ribbon was cut, hundreds of people gathered in a tent to hear speeches from McConnaughay, Penn State President Graham Spanier, Lewis Katz and others involved in the creation of the new building.
Spanier said the Lewis Katz Building is "groundbreaking in its capacities," adding it has the power to advance law education.
"I am proud to be part of this noble endeavor," Spanier said.
