Savoir Faire -- Penn State's first all-female a cappella group -- will take the stage Saturday in its final concert of the semester.
The concert is titled "All is Faire in Love and War" and will feature Savoir Faire, The Dreamers of Phi Mu Alpha and The Muhlenberg AcaFellas.
"This is it, our biggest performance of the year. This concert is going to be one of our best," group member Amy Gilbert (senior-electrical engineering) said.
Savoir Faire will perform a variety of songs including the Beatles' "Help," Pink's "Who Knew," Madonna's "Like a Prayer" and Taylor Swift's "Love Story."
Gilbert said The Dreamers will start the concert with a few songs followed by Savoir Faire's first set. Then the AcaFellas will perform, and Savoir Faire will take the stage a second time.
The order of performances is to keep the audience members on their toes, Gilbert said, adding the all-male groups performing will provide a different sound for the audience to enjoy.
"The songs we are performing are like a progression from the beginning to the end of a relationship," Savoir Faire member Elise Brady (senior-animal science) said.
Savoir Faire musical director Sharon Silverman (sophomore-Jewish studies) has worked with AcaFellas business manager Steven Finkelstein in the past and invited the Muhlenberg group to perform at Penn State.
"Sharon and I thought it would be nice to perform in a concert together," said Finkelstein, a sophomore majoring in music at Muhlenberg College. This will be his group's first performance at Penn State, he added.
Finkelstein said the AcaFellas like to explore as many different styles and moods of songs as they can.
"We are serious about what we do, but we realize that a cappella music is supposed to be lighthearted, so we try to have fun with it," he said.
In Savoir Faire's final set, the three senior group members -- who plan to graduate next month -- will perform the Dixie Chicks' "Landslide," Gilbert said.
"It's our moment," she said.
