I disagree with the proposal to have a CATA bus loop for the sole purpose of a frat loop. Although it would provide transportation to many students, it fails to look at the broader picture.
The "frata" loop would disrupt local traffic, cause loud noises for local residents, and encourage young college students to drink. Since most students who attend frat parties are freshman, this is only encouraging young students to drink as we are allowing a more efficient means of transportation to these parties. However, the biggest problem for this proposed loop would be the bus stops.
If students wish to catch this bus back to their dorms, they would have to wait at poorly lighted street corners located near the frats. Students could also be struck by buses if they stumble onto these dark roads.
There are stories published each year about frat fights and dangerous behavior occurring outside of the frats. Now students must wait in these areas. If they're with others, it will most likely lead to shouting battles, property damage, and potential fights. If students are alone, they could be assaulted by other drunken students. To correct for this problem, lights would be placed at each stop, causing more light pollution for local residents.
Additionally, police officers would be forced to patrol these areas more intently. If anything, more police presence in this area would lead to more busted parties, something I am sure college kids disprove of.
