Baseball game postponed for rainy weather

Freshman Ryan Ignas will have to wait a week longer to continue his teammates' streak against an in-state rival.

The Penn State baseball team's game against Pittsburgh Tuesday night has been postponed due to impending weather.

Originally scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Tuesday, the contest has been moved to Tuesday, April 14. Game time will remain at 6:35 p.m. as the Nittany Lions look for their fifth straight victory against their rival.

"I hear they're pretty tough," Ignas, a pitcher, said. "It's always a rivalry between us. We're ready. We'll see what happens."

Last season, Penn State beat the Panthers, 6-5, in Pittsburgh, when the Lions scored four runs in the first inning and never trailed.

The Lions (17-12, 3-3 Big Ten) just took two games out of a three-game set against Michigan this past weekend to move to one game behind conference-leading Illinois, who sits at 18-7, 4-2.

Penn State's next game will be against Bucknell at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Lions defeated the Bison, 6-5, last week.

"It gives us an extra day to come back and work on the basics and fundamentals," Ignas said. "We can sharpen up for the next game. It's always nice to have an extra day off to fine tune things you need to work on."

Ignas said he doesn't know how the pitching would sort out or be effected for the Bucknell because of the weather.

But team sports information director Jay Monahan said the Lions might use a collection of pitchers in the game, with the starters perhaps throwing only one or two innings before being replaced.
