Phi Delta Theta attorney to take argument to Planning Commission

The attorney for the owners of the former Phi Delta Theta fraternity house said Friday his clients plan to speak their minds on a plan devised at the last State College Planning Commission meeting.

In a letter to Borough Council President Elizabeth Goreham and borough zoning officer Herman Slaybaugh, attorney Bernie Cantorna said his clients and other members of the public wish to attend the April 16 Planning Commission meeting and express their thoughts on a plan that would revise the borough's definition of a fraternity house and ban rooming houses on campus.

The former Phi Delta Theta house, 240 N. Burrowes Road, in February was ruled a rooming house and would be affected by the proposed ordinance.

While members are already struggling with Penn State's recent "anti-fraternity" regulations, Cantorna said, the borough's proposed zoning ordinances sacrifice the property rights of the Penn State alumni who own fraternity houses, he said.
