While I'm glad that some attention was brought to the deteriorating buildings on campus (Margaret Miceli's Feb. 9 column "Disparity in facilities unfair to students"), while millions of tuition dollars are being spent on glass boxes of wasted space like the law school and business buildings, the problem is not just in the liberal arts department.
Across the street from the Business Building is the Agricultural Engineering building that, because it was not aesthetically on par with the its neighbor, had to be re-landscaped to not detract potential students. Meanwhile, if one enters the building he or she will discover outdated classrooms, inefficient windows, and paint peeling off some of the walls.
This is just one example of many neglected buildings. Perhaps instead of worrying about spending millions on grand modern architectural designs (that will be outdated looking in 20 years), they could build something more utilitarian and invest the savings on new roofs, windows and paint.
