Marcus Landry matched his career-high of 23 points and silenced the second-half surge of the Nittany Lions with a thunderous dunk with 7.8 seconds to go as Wisconsin held off Penn State, 65-61, Saturday at the Kohl Center.
The game was a far cry from the teams' two match-ups last season, when the Badgers won by 25 and 36 points, respectively.
But the Stanley Pringle-led Lions hung tough throughout the second half, where the senior guard scored 22 of his game-high 26 points.
In the end, however, it was not enough, as Wisconsin held the Big Ten's leading scorer, Talor Battle, to just six points off 2-for-11 shooting.
Battle hit one of two free throws with 13.1 seconds left to cut the Wisconsin lead to 63-61.
But on the ensuing possession, Wisconsin spread the floor and got the ball to Landry, who slammed it home while being fouled by D.J. Jackson.
Battle's last-second heave was no good, and the Badgers avoided their second home loss of the season.
Penn State returns to the Bryce Jordan Center Tuesday to host No. 9 Purdue.
