One night after losing its opening game in the Salem State Holiday Tournament, the No. 3 Penn State ACHA Division I Icers captured third place with an 8-0 rout in the consolation game.
Taking on the Salve Regina Seahawks, an NCAA Division III team, Penn State (16-5-0) dominated play, outshooting the Seahawks 39-19.
Sophomore Teddy Hume stopped all 19 Seahawk shots for the shutout victory, one night after senior Nick Signet made 28 saves in a 2-1 loss. Senior defender Steve Thurston started the scoring in the first period and later added his eighth of the season on one of Penn State's three power-play goals.
Senior Luke DeLorenzo also scored two goals for the Icers, giving him 94 for his career.
With the win, Penn State claimed third-place in the four-team tournament and is off until Jan. 9, when it returns to the ice for a weekend series with the No. 10 Ohio Bobcats.
