Hearing for student charged in HUB knife incident continued

The preliminary hearing for a student Penn State Police say threatened two different men with a knife in the HUB-Robeson Center last week was continued Wednesday to a later date.

Joshua Robert Dreibelbis, 18, of Port Matilda, was charged Dec. 10 with felony aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, ethnic intimidation and harassment and stalking, according to the criminal complaint.

After grabbing the hair of a man he knew at about 11 a.m. Dec. 7, Dreibelbis pulled the man's head backward and held a knife to his throat, police said. The confrontation ended when mutual friends witnessed the incident and told Dreibelbis to put away the knife, police said.

Dreibelbis was involved in another altercation at about 2 p.m. the same day in the same area of the HUB, when members of the group joked about needing protection from him, police said. Police say Dreibelbis overheard the joke and threatened the previously accosted man, before grabbing a second man and cutting his hair with the knife.
