Six volleyball players named All-Americans

Even when it comes to receiving accolades, Nicole Fawcett and her teammates are ahead of the competition.

A nation-best six players from the No. 1 Penn State women's volleyball team were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I All-American Teams Wednesday.

It is the fourth straight season Fawcett has been named an All-American. After being named to the second team in 2005, she has been placed on the first team three consecutive seasons.

"It's a great compliment," Fawcett said at Wednesday's press conference in Omaha, Neb. "But it's a reflection of the team in general. You can't get anywhere without your team -- everyone has contributions to each other."

Joining Fawcett on the first-team list is Alisha Glass, Christa Harmotto and Megan Hodge. It is the third straight season Hodge has been named to the first team, and Harmotto's second.

Rounding out the Nittany Lions' placement are sophomores Blair Brown and Arielle Wilson on the second team. It is the first time either one has been named an All-American.

Penn State's six honorees on the three teams are the most in the nation. Also, the Lions' four selections on the first team are just ahead of Stanford and Texas, which placed three.

The Division I AVCA National Player of the Year will be announced Friday, Dec. 19.
