In response to, "Devlin leaves Lions" (Dec. 11), it is time for President Spanier to step up to the line and eliminate the biggest problem with Penn State football and that is Joe Paterno himself. He continues to completely mismanage the handing of his quarterbacks. He insists on sticking with one player year after year regardless of how the player is playing in any specific game. Every player, regardless of position, should be told that if you aren't playing up to your ability in a given game you will be replaced.
Joe has done a lot for the university over the years both financially and for the football program. Most, if not all the alumni, recognize that, but there is a time when you must realize that a change is necessary for the good of the program, and I think that time has arrived.
