Local car dealer files for bankruptcy
Rider Auto, Inc., one of Centre County's largest car dealerships, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last Monday because of declining sales, an attorney said Thursday.
Robert Chernicoff, an attorney representing Rider Auto, 1703 W. College Ave., said the bankruptcy stems from the declining automotive market.
Police: Group knocks down menorah
A large menorah placed in the lawn of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, 240 E. Prospect Ave., was knocked down by a group of people Thursday, the State College Police Department said.
The menorah is worth $600, police said. About 10 to 15 people ran from the scene after the menorah fell, police said.
State College Police Lt. Chris Fishel said police do not believe the incident was an act of hate toward the national Jewish fraternity.
Deadline for Thon haircut set for today
Today is the deadline to apply to get a haircut on stage Thon weekend in association with Wigs for Kids.
Applications are available at thon.org and are due by 5 p.m. to the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon office, 210 HUB-Robeson Center, or can be e-mailed to psu.wigsforkids@gmail.com.
Applicants will be notified if they are chosen the first week of the spring semester. All donations will go to Wigs for Kids. For those who don't donate hair on stage, there are also participating salons in State College. Visit wigsforkids.org for more information.
Police Log
Criminal Mischief: An unknown person slashed two tires and keyed the side of a man's Ford Explorer at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday at 445 Waupelani Drive, the State College Police Department said. There are no suspects, police said.
Traffic Accident: A pedestrian was injured after being struck by a vehicle turning left on East College Avenue from Locust Lane at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday, the State College Police Department said. The pedestrian was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of knee pain, police said.
Traffic Incident: A man reported being followed by another man in a truck who shined a spotlight on the man and pointed a long gun out the window of his truck on the 600 block of Rosslyn Road Saturday, the State College Police Department said. The man in the truck also bumped the other man's vehicle several times in a driveway, police said. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
