Man robs local bank, police say

State College Police are looking for a man they say robbed at gunpoint a branch of Citizens Bank on South Atherton Street Thursday afternoon.

Police said the man entered the South Hills branch of the bank at 1248 S. Atherton St., around 3:08 p.m. with a black handgun and requested cash from the bank clerks.

The value of the loss is undetermined at this time, police said.

There were no customers in the bank at the time of the robbery, but one person entered the bank as the suspect was leaving, police said.

There was no threat of violence by the suspect, police said, and no one was injured during the incident.

Police described the suspect as a white male, 5 feet, 3 inches to 5 feet, 4 inches tall, in his early 20s with a fair complexion, facial stubble and possible hazel eyes. The man was last seen wearing a white "Nittany Lions" hooded sweatshirt and a blue stocking cap with stripes, police said.

Police said the man may be left-handed.

Photos of the man are posted on the police department's Web site at statecollegepa.us. Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call police at (814) 234-7150. Police said a brown mid-size sport utility vehicle was in the area at the time of the robbery, but it is unknown if was involved in the incident.

After the robbery, a sign posted on the branch's door said the office was temporarily closed and asked patrons to visit the Citizens Bank at 122 W. College Ave.
