Mascot should be forgiven, no one has perfect record

I'm writing in response to "Lion's Charge is disgraceful to the PSU name, students" (Dec. 3). Have you ever made a mistake? Is there some part of your life you wish you could take back, or redo? No one is perfect; everyone messes up, even you Ms. Lindenmuth. James Sheep epitomizes everything we look and ask for in a mascot. He is extremely dedicated to our university, sports teams and most importantly the students. If you had any idea how busy and demanding his schedule is, maybe you would understand. Sheep attends most if not all of the sporting events enthusiastically, and has been the most outstanding mascot I have seen in my four years here at Penn State. He embodies school spirit, maintains excellent grades and puts pride into the PSU name. I'm not condoning DUI's, and I know what police say he did was wrong, but give him a break. You have to remember, the Nittany Lion is human too, and we should stand behind him in his time of trouble, just like he has stood by each and everyone one of the students, faculty and athletes when they have struggled.

I do not feel "shamed" by Sheep or his actions. I choose to stand by him and forgive him. Hail to the Lion.
