LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Articles lacked information, news value for audiences

I'm about to give up on you, Daily Collegian, I really am. You really disappointed me with the articles, "Vibrator pulsates to students' music" and "Break chance for hometown flings" (Nov. 18). I thought perhaps the articles on the back page were simply attempting to have shock value. The story about fornicating with old classmates seemed unnecessary already, but it included the highly professional statement, "It depends on how horny you are." I don't really need to read about girls planning to go home and whore it up over break. That is not news.

Foolishly, I moved on to the next article on the page, a sizable piece about a vibrator. The writer of the article seemed to glaze over the actuality that it is, in fact, a vibrator. Luckily, she did offer up the completely unsurprising fact that the main users of this product are the LGBT community, college students and married or dating couples.

It is a good thing that this story was run or I might still be under the impression that elderly people and children are the main users of musical vibrators. In the future, could you please keep your audience in mind and run stories that are a bit more newsworthy?
