LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Students were just too busy to honor veterans at event

Everyone knows that at this point of the year, many students are busy with their academic assignments, work or daily routines. In response to "Students unable to devote time to honoring Veterans" (Nov. 13), assumptions should not be made about people who didn't have the spare time to go to the ceremony at Old Main. Everyday, many of us struggle to stay on top of things and to stay on track.

One of the most important reasons that students didn't attend the ceremony is that no advertisements were posted to notify students about it.

Near the end of the semester, professors tend to pile up academic assignments, which may result in more stress for students. This takes a huge amount of their free time and prevents them from going to campus events. Maybe if the ceremony were scheduled on weekends instead of weekdays, students could take time off from school and go to Old Main and participate in the event.

Another reason students couldn't go to the ceremony is that they were probably cleaning up before the upcoming Thanksgiving break. Students tend to clean their apartments and spend time arranging Thanksgiving plans before leaving for the break, while coping with their academics at the same time.

Missing out on a ceremony at Old Main doesn't mean that students don't care about our veterans and our country.

It just means that we are too busy with our own daily lives.
