HUB Heritage Hall was filled with a handful of shirtless athletes trying to raise money Monday night.
To encourage bidders during the 3rd annual Penn State Marketing Association's Celebrity Date Auction, members of the men's swim team and the Penn State Icers shed their shirts as they stood on stage.
After enduring chants of "take it off!" for several minutes, the five swim team members removed their shirts one by one.
The prize, eventually selling for $235, was a special pizza delivery from the men -- wearing nothing but Speedos.
The auction was designed to benefit the Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon and raised more than $2,000 for the cause.
A raffle of Penn State paraphernalia, including autographed jerseys and posters, also contributed to the thousands of dollars raised.
Event coordinator Nicole Hannigan (senior-marketing) said she was not expecting to raise so much money during the event, which lasted about an hour and a half.
"This is more than I could have asked for," she said. "I'm so thrilled."
"Celebrities" being auctioned included several Penn State athletes, Thon overall committee members, Penn State Playboy girl Brianna Leigh and a double date with drum major Matt Sabo and Blue Sapphire PJ Maierhofer.
The highest bidder for the Thon committee members won a free trip to any Penn State men's basketball game accompanied by the overalls and five friends.
The winner will also receive on-court halftime recognition and free food vouchers for the duration of the game.
The most expensive prize of the night was a tour of the Lasch Football Building and the Beaver Stadium suites given by four Penn State football players.
Katy Rambo (sophomore-marketing) outbid the rest of the audience by offering $260.
"I didn't expect to spend any [money] actually," Rambo said. "But when I saw that, I wanted it."
Other popular prize packages included two pre-game field passes to the upcoming Michigan State football game, which sold for $225, and a "White-Out" poster signed by the entire football team, which sold for $235.
A football autographed by Joe Paterno sold for only $55, despite the emcees stressing the fact that this could be his last year as head coach.
Emcees Alex Middleton, IFC associate vice president of Thon, and Greg Tallman, Thon overall communications chairman, spontaneously added themselves as a double date package as the final sale of the night, earning an extra $40 for the cause. The pair agreed to take the winner on a dinner date to the place of her choice, on them.
