In response to, "Obama: the best choice for students" (Nov. 3), here are some real facts and figures for you. College? A $4,000 tax credit for students sounds great, but it's not up-front cash. Student loans will include that $4,000, and the interest will be accumulating while the student is in school.
Renewable energy? Solar and wind power only work in specific areas and are not nearly enough to make a sizable dent in the nation's energy problem. We have enough coal in this country to keep up current levels of coal-generated power production for more than 200 years. Insurance? If I worked 10 hours a month at a minimum wage job while in college, I could afford basic health insurance.
John McCain understands that $4,000 to every college student is a gimmick -- he proposes sustainable tax relief. He understands that the energy problems in this country aren't going to be fixed by wind and solar power, but by cleaner coal and increased nuclear power. McCain recognizes that healthcare is a personal choice and supports an individual's right to choose the best coverage. Before you head to the polls, consider the facts and figures -- they all point to McCain.
