COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Penn State backup quarterback Pat Devlin engineered two fourth-quarter scoring drives and kept the Nittany Lions' Big Ten and national championship aspirations alive in a 13-6 victory over Ohio State on Saturday night at Ohio Stadium.
Devlin, subbing for the injured Daryll Clark, scored on a 1-yard plunge as the Lions won in Columbus for the first time since 1978 before a record crowd of 105,711 fans.
Ohio State had a 6-3 lead when quarterback Terrelle Pryor fumbled.
No. 3 Penn State (9-0, 5-0 Big Ten) put itself in the driver's seat for the Big Ten championship, while No. 10 Ohio State (7-2, 4-1) had its conference title and Bowl Championship Series hopes dashed.
Pryor, who picked the Buckeyes over Penn State and Michigan, ran a quarterback keeper on a third-and-1 with the Buckeyes holding a 6-3 lead in the fourth quarter. He started up the middle, then turned around the right edge when safety Mark Rubin poked the ball loose.
"I knew I was going to get in trouble for bouncing it outside, but I thought I was going to score," said Pryor, who spoke in one or two sentences and was on the verge of tears.
Linebacker Navorro Bowman recovered and Devlin came in to lead a seven play, 38-yard drive that ended with his touchdown.
"It's tough, because Daryll did a great job," Devlin said. "There were definitely a lot of bodies on top of me in that end zone."
