Sentencing for former Lion postponed

The sentencing of former Penn State wide receiver Chris Bell was postponed Tuesday until a later date, Assistant District Attorney Nathan Boob said.

Police said Bell threatened then-teammate Devon Still with a knife in the Pollock Dining Commons in April. The two were fighting over a cell phone case Still said Bell took from him, police said. Bell pulled an 8-inch cooking knife out of his sleeve, according to court documents.

Centre County Judge Bradley Lunsford rejected a plea deal Aug. 29 that would have allowed Bell to serve two years probation for a first-degree misdemeanor count of terroristic threats. Lunsford said in August he wants to investigate if Bell's use of a deadly weapon, the 8-inch knife, merits stricter punishment.

Bell's attorney, Anthony DeBoef, could not be reached for comment as of press time Tuesday.
