Field hockey team downs No. 5 Iowa

The No. 13 Penn State field hockey team defeated No. 5 Iowa, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at AstroTurf Field. This was the second Nittany Lion match broadcast on the Big Ten Network this year, both matches resulting in conference victories.

Sophomore Daneen Zug put the Lions ahead with a goal off a penalty corner with six minutes remaining. The Manheim, Pa. native has recorded five goals in as many games.

The Lions struck first, off a shot by senior Allie Scola that trickled past Hawkeye goalie Lissa Munley and into the back of the net.

After Friday's victory, the Lions are now tied with Michigan State for first place in the Big Ten.

The Lions will face No. 10 Virginia at 1 p.m. Sunday at AstroTurf Field.
