Commonwealth students to control fee

Students may soon control the new facilities fee at campuses across the commonwealth.

The Council of Commonwealth Student Governments (CCSG) passed a resolution regarding the new fee at its first meeting of the year on Saturday. The legislation calls for the creation of a Campus Facilities Fee Committee at each Commonwealth Campus.

Police charge men with selling drugs

Two men were charged Saturday after they arranged to sell crack cocaine in State College, according to police.

Police charged State College resident Gregory Rogers, 37, with two counts of drug possession with intent to sell, criminal use of a communication facility and possession of a controlled substance after police say he sold a police informant drugs worth $785. Allentown man Daniel Lee, 26, suspected to be Rogers' supplier, was charged with criminal conspiracy and possession of controlled substances with intent to manufacture or deliver, according to the criminal complaint.

Both men were incarcerated at Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $300,000.

Student arrested in connection with assault of officer

An inebriated Penn State student was arrested after assaulting police officers trying to get him to the hospital, police said.

Police responded shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday to a report of an unresponsive man in Beaver Hill Apartments, 340 E. College Ave., to find Ryan Muthard, 21, asleep in a study room, State College Police Lt. Mark Argiro said. He reacted violently when officers tried to sit him up, injuring one in the knee, police said.

Muthard was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, simple assault, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and harassment, according to the complaint. He was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment, released to police and was subsequently released in lieu of $25,000 bail, according to the complaint.

The officer was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment and released, Argiro said.

Police: Student attacks hospital staff

A Penn State student was arrested after police say he attacked three nurses while undergoing treatment for alcohol intoxication.

Kevin G. Muska, 22, was found unresponsive in the early morning hours of Thursday at the base of a stairwell, according to the criminal complaint. Upon his transport to Mount Nittany Medical Center, Muska became argumentative with ambulance personnel and nursing staff, saying he needed to leave, police said. When the staff insisted he take off his pants and get into a hospital gown, Muska leaned back and started kicking, striking three nurses, according to the criminal complaint.

Muska was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was released from Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Atherton Street crash injures drivers

A two-car crash on Atherton Street on Saturday left two people injured. Mary Myers, 29, said she was turning left from Atherton Street onto Branch Road when her Oldsmobile Alero was struck on the side by a car running the red light, according to the report.

The driver of the other vehicle, 51-year-old Tracey Greiner, said she was traveling north on Atherton Street when Myers swerved in front of her, causing the collision, according to the accident report. The light was green, she said, the accident report states.

Myers suffered a broken right leg; Greiner reported arm and leg pain, according to the accident report. Police are investigating the accident to determine fault.
