WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Joe Paterno was in the coaches booth because of pain in his right leg at the start of Penn State's game against Purdue at Ross-Ade Stadium.
This is the first time Paterno has started a game in the coaches booth since 2006, when he coached the Outback Bowl against Tennessee from the coaches booth as he recovered from torn ligaments in his left knee.
Paterno, who injured the leg during a kicking drill before the season opener, coached the second half of Penn State's 45-3 win over Temple Sept. 20 from the press box.
