Celebs dress to impress at Emmys

The most popular accessory at this year's annual Primetime Emmy Awards was, surprisingly, a family member. This year, stars came toting parents, brothers, sisters and children, and looked great doing it. Besides family members, stars showed up in everything from metallic to bright yellow dresses. Here are my top five favorite looks of the night.

Who: Sandra Oh

Why I Think It Works: Sandra Oh, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a drama series for her role on Grey's Anatomy, looked fantastic in a lacey black dress by Oscar de la Renta. She sported vintage Chanel shoes and jewelry as well as this year's big trend, her extended family. Oh always does a great job with playing up her ballerina body by wearing high neck and form fitting dresses. The first half of the dress hit at the waist and went down into a detailed layered skirt.

Who: Marcia Cross

Why I Think it Works: Marcia Cross of Desperate Housewives has the most fantastic porcelain skin in Hollywood, and the dress she wore by Elie Saab completely complimented her skin tone. The beige and light pink strapless dress had meticulous detailing across the chest and flowed down into the skirt like a string of vines.

Who: Heidi Klum

Why I Think It Works: Heidi Klum, nominated this year for Outstanding Host on a Reality or Reality-Competition Program for her show Project Runway, shone at the Emmy's and cemented her role as the ultimate trendsetter with a fantastic metallic dress. The dress was dark gray and had three main layers that started at the shoulder and draped over arm, coming down across her body like falling petals. You're either in or you're out, and Klum never fails to be in.

Who: Nicollette Sheridan

Why I Think It Works: Nicollette Sheridan from Desperate Housewives has a way of choosing trends that never fail to compliment her awesome body. Last night she wore a dress by Angel Sanchez in this season's hot color -- dark purple. The dress looked like she had been stitched into it. The detailing, which was a common trend at this year's Emmy's was also extremely impressive.

Who: Teri Hatcher

Why I Think It Works: Yellow also made a splash at the Emmy's this year as the color of the evening and Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives definitely won the award for the best yellow dress. Hers was strapless and flowed down to the floor in a series of tiers, much like Klum's dress, but created a light and fun look to compliment Hatcher's bubbly personality.
