Paterno passes Bowden on wins list

Joe Paterno returned as college football's winningest coach among major college coaches Saturday night after Florida State lost, 12-3, to Wake Forest.

Penn State beat Temple, 45-3, at Beaver Stadium earlier Saturday to give Paterno win No. 376 of his career.

Paterno tied Florida State coach Bobby Bowden when Penn State beat Coastal Carolina in the Nittany Lions' season opener, and the two matched each other in wins the following two weeks. Penn State has played one more game than Florida State so far.

Bowden and Florida State will have an opportunity to catch Paterno next Saturday when the Seminoles play Colorado. Penn State hosts Illinois.
