LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Take care of team, alumni by making lyrics a priority

I'd like to commend Jim Coder for reminding us what's important in life: the feelings of spirited alumni and the football players we cheer for ("Students should take time to learn fight song lyrics," Aug. 26). Coder urges Penn Staters to "do the alumni and the football team a favor and learn the right lyrics" to Penn State fight songs.

When it's fourth down and the game is on the line against Michigan this year, we all know that the only thing that can give our beloved football team the edge is making sure we nail the lyrics to "The Nittany Lion." We ain't the No. 1 student section in the country for nothing. And while the alumni across the stadium from the students beam with pride because, finally, the students are making them proud, well ... it'll all be worth it.

And if that's not incentive enough, think of the football players. God knows that if we add an extra line to a fight song, their fragile egos will be crushed, sending them into a downward spiral of suckitude. Have some pride, Penn State. Don't screw it up for a nation of watchful alumni by flubbing the fight song.
