Aleesha Barber, one of the first Penn State track and field athletes to compete in an individual event in the Olympics, narrowly missed a bid to advance to the 100-meter hurdle semifinals.
Barber represented Trinidad and Tobago and finished fourth in her heat with a time of 13.01 seconds Sunday in Beijing. The last of the 16 qualifiers to advance to the semifinals clocked a 12.98.
Barber, who will be a senior in the fall, joined alums Connie Moore and Toyin Augustus as the only three track and field Olympians in Penn State's history. Augustus also ran in this year's 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 13.34.
Barber, who is from Georgia, holds Trinidad and Tobago's national record in the 100-meter hurdles.
