West College Jimmy John's closes

The lights are off and the chip racks lay empty at Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, 220 W. College Ave., because it is merging with its East College location, a manager said.

The Jimmy John's location on West College Avenue has been closed down and has been combined with the store on East College, manager Jeremy Farabaugh said.

"We're looking for a new location so they aren't so close together," he said.

When asked if there would be any changes to the East College store, Farabaugh said there would be some price changes to items and there may also be new additions to the menu -- but the exact details weren't worked out yet.

A new location for the store that was shut down has not been picked out yet, and managers are still looking for a location that could possibly include a drive-thru, Farabaugh said.

Employees from the West College location have been transferred to East College, he added."It is inconvenient for some, but it's easier to have the store in one location," said Kayla Kvasny, an employee at the West College location who now works at the East College store.

Farabaugh said it would be easier to combine them and make the East College location livelier, Kvasny said.

The Jimmy John's location on East College offers outdoor seating, unlike the location on West College.

Sitting, eating a sub at the East College location, Nick Ross (graduate-astronomy) said the location on West College closing was a bit annoying.

"Depending where you are on College Avenue, it can be inconvenient," he said. "But it makes sense to combine them; each time I go into any of the locations it's pretty quiet."

Despite the changes to Jimmy John's, Ross said he's certain the East College store will stay open.

"I love my Jimmy John's," he said.
