This is not the first incident to occur at the University Terrace apartments in recent months. Police said a bloody, drug-related fight broke out on April 27 between four men at the apartment complex's Building W at 924 Bellaire Ave., according to Collegian archives.
The fight ensued when Lawrence Murphy, 20, attempted to steal a duffel bag full of marijuana from the apartment's residents, police said. In response, three men chased Murphy, hitting him with their fists and golf clubs, leaving lacerations on his face and puncture wounds on his face and neck, according to court documents.
Murphy was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, robbery and simple assault in addition to several drug charges. The three other men, Stephan Jarmak, 20; Cory Seibert, 22; and Corey Stranzl, 21, face charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and drug charges, according to court documents. All four men are scheduled for a pretrial conference July 22.
Police also found multiple items used to grow marijuana in the men's apartment, including grow lamps and marijuana seeds, according to court documents. They also found several more items that indicated intent to deliver the drugs, including plastic baggies, a digital scale and nearly $2,000 in cash.
A representative from the Apartment Store, University Terrace's realtor, could not be reached by press time yesterday.
