Spikes break out offensively, snap losing streak

One night after generating just two hits, the State College Spikes broke out offensively on Fireworks Night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Backed by home runs from Cole White and Butch Biela, the Spikes won for the first time in a week, snapping a six-game losing streak, 9-6 over Vermont.

State College trailed by one in the bottom of the eighth inning, but Biela's lead off home run sparked a five-run inning that sent nine batters to the plate.

First baseman Calvin Anderson was the only Spike to not have a hit. Third baseman Matt Payne, who had one of the Spikes' two hits yesterday, went 4-for-5.

Notes: It was the first professional home run for both White and Biela. Biela did not hit a home run with Bradenton in the Gulf Coast League last year.
